PURPOSE
My magazine's purpose is to educate, inform and entertain the audience. The name of this magazine will be indie for the common but in an abbreviation will be INDIE FTC (for the common) and will be a magazine around indie/indie rock music.
with the form of entertainment (free music festival tickets as a prize) this shall be banners and font headings telling prizes and prizes such as consort tickets on pages with this entertaining and amusing an audience with an interactive part takes in the magazine as well as my magazine informing. This being found on content page, for articles description of what there about and what page they are on. And with educate this shall come under the interview on the double page spread, with the interview this shall educate the audience on indie rock/music industry's upcoming and new local artists as well as this however my magazine shall promote the interviewee as I shall make this character a new and upcoming indie rock artist with being in the magazine would give exposure as it will have emails and social media accounts (which are fake)
FORM AND GENRE
The magazine I am making is an indie music and indie rock magazine, based in the Sheffield area and areas in South Yorkshire, with the magazine being around how to make indie music as well as current changes and artists in the indie music industry. With my music magazine I have gone with indie and indie rock as the genre of music is a staple and a form of icon in Sheffield's entertainment industry. With such people as pulp and artic monkeys for example
CONTENT
Throughout the magazine my house colors will consist of the colors black white, red Black giving the common and stereo typed link to the indie rock style and industry, so by following this ethos it will appeal more to the target audience, white this is easy to read and bold, I can use this to show easy and strong contrast to text that is more important such as the title of the cover with the contrast to red this can be more aesthetically pleasing and eye catching to the target audience as well as the colour red, this resembling and referencing groups of rebelliousness and danger that would appeal to the target audience these groups being such groups like anarchy and with red carrying conventions of danger, this matches the life style of indie rock and the music behind it.
For my magazine I shall be making 3 different pages, these are dps (double page spread), a contents page and a front page. For my front page it shall have a blocky spray paint style text this being a font called high voltage with this connoting the rebellious style and ideology of indie rock, this making it more appealing and more noticeable to the niche indie rock audience my magazine is targeting, as well as this the front cover page shall be of a male playing a guitar ( bass guitar ) with the front cover being male this would appeal to the male target audience more as it could create an ideal self and for the female audience it shall be an ideal partner( carl rogers 1980 ) and with the model being younger this would attract and appeal to the younger audience threw ideal self and ideal partner for this image it shall be a low angle, and a low shutter speed this matching with the consistent them of on stage atmosphere as stages are commonly dark and to give the guitarist a more dominant characteristic threw the connotations of the low angle as well for the model shall wear a suit shirt. However with top gotten undone as well as making it look more scruffy this giving connotations of how people e.g. the model being someone who dresses well in society such as an office job and being in the common can break the stereotype this filling into another example of ideal self, as well as the banner in the middle, under will be of the article on the dps, this being the interview and the image of the person I am interviewing. This showing the off the page off the bat.
The lighting of this show will be industrial to connote the idea that Hes on a stage, with it being a dark and low-key lighting with the windows being covered and lights be turned off but the studio light being the only light on. With my magazine the clothes will be formal with the clothes being a collared shirt and vest but with the top buttons being undone. this breaking the idea of conforming to society and being in the patten of a Moden day world this enforcing the idea and ethos of indie rock and its rough and unproducible nature/style
The front page after the main image, the mast head and the banners will set out the color scheme and ethos of the magazines style with the mast head being INDIE FTC ( for the common ) the indie font will be very rough and bold compared to the FTC being smaller and in red this showing a contrast and giving an idea of what the magazine is off the bat when you look at it and with it covering the width of the magazine it shall show the important of it to the audience. As well as mast head I shall be using cover-lines, this shall in a less rough style type face with a bold and default text underneath to give a more detailed description of the cover line with the color scheme of black ( this being a back ground to give a more contrast to the red and white ) white and red white and red with this being in text such as win now or go and with tickets this helping show a contrast and will be used to show a stark contrast and to gain more attention with words such as WIN and NEW being white or red and with page numbers the over text color. cover lines such as indie rock are changing, this linking to my contents page and, a wide verity of taste, this looking to my contents page over the front cover. in the middle will be a banner showing a main topic of the magazine, (this saying Ewan's grand army) Infront of a hazard gritty red and black style banner, as this follows the common theme of hazard while carrying the color scheme. Under this will be a link to my dps and the interview on it. this being with an image of the person I am interviewing. to show off who it would be. For my double page spread this shall include image of a red microphone in a collection of wires this will be taken on a low shutter speed and a close angle with the shutter speed helping me match and give the consistent atmosphere of backstage, and the close to capture the on and off button. this being on to give connotations of going to be used on stage and being on a stage/live mic stage that would be used on stage giving the impression that it will be used on stage and ready for an artist to start singing and playing music. With the other side being white (where the text is going to be) the title shall be bold and rough with it being the same as the front cover pages cover lines titles and with it then changing to a bolder and Modern look. This giving a true idea of change and gives connotations of how different it is changing threw the front style, for the color scheme of this the text on the left shall be red with the over Harf on the image being red enforcing the idea of change and contrast in the important.
As well as this, the contents page shall also have a small image of a studio mic, this to show and follow with the idea of educating the process of music. while targeting that niche part of the demographic wanting to know how it was made and the elements of how it was made.
For my contents page, the first focal point will be the image, this shall be an image of a studio microphone located in the school, with this appealing in the aspect of how it starts this may interest a starting or begging audience with the microphone conveying and giving connation's of it being a production stage and how it started this shall be a close up shot as I want to get all of the mics features and textures such as the spit Guard and stand and with me later editing into black, white, and cutting out the hand going to reach the mic and the mic itself, the lighting will be bright and natural with it being from the window and the light above. This shall be covered with the page title. Font style will be the same as the front cover line title this sticking with the rough aesthetic of indie rock this going over the image on left of the microphone white being over the semitransparent box, with the contents main titles being in the font style of the font cover lines titles and for the description for the titles will be in High voltage as it is easy to read and bold as well as with this yet matching with the theme and ethos of my magazine and style
With the lighting of the image, it will follow the idea of a stage and live music (like the front page) so lighting will be dramatic and exceptionally low key, how I will make this is by turning off all the lights and turning on a far studio light, this there for giving a more realistic style. as well as this applying to the studio mic to follow the same theme and to not make it too strong of a contrast to the main image.
DPS
With this being a sharp contrast, the headline will be “indie rock industry is changing “with the “is changing “being the different and more Modern font and the indie rock industry being the rough and bold style. With my interview text it shall be in the font … and in the color black as its bold and easy to read. The interview will be about an upcoming indie rock artist in Sheffield talking about how different indie rock is in the 20th century compared to 1970 to 1990, the text will be about social media influencers about indie rock personnel Esperance and how getting in the industry is different to how different it was to then. For picking a female interviewee it will create an ideal partner idea self again. And with indie rock being a majority male audience and industry the fact of interviewing a female shows and enforces the idea and ethos of change in the industry therefore linking to the title and what my dps is about this being my first focal point.
For my second image it shall be of a male model portending to make and produce music, with connotations to my magazines purpose of encourage people how to make and produce you how music. With the model becoming then an ideal self to the male audience and to that audience that want to make indie rock music but do not know how. This shot will be taken in the same room as the microphone, so it will have natural lighting from the window and lighting from a light fixture above. The shot will be a portrait mid shot as I want to get the model and microphone in one the actor will be wearing generic clothing as this would not be seen in the image as the actor is facing forward and with the angle being over the shoulder angle too. As well as this for my contents page it shall include a fake email address ( INDIEFTC@INFO.ORG.UK ) as well as fake social media accounts for Instagram and face book under the name INDIEFTC Facebook and Intergram
RESOURCES AND PERSONELL
For my magazine, I shall be the producer, photographer, editor, and graphic designer. So, I shall be making this magazine by myself, for making the magazine I shall need hardware such as Apple Mac, these are industry standard so they shall enable me to make it look as professional as possible as well as making it so I can upload and download images and fonts. With this I shall need software such as Illustrator, and Photoshop to put my magazine together and to create a layout. Another hard-wear I shall need is a Canon camera with an SD card, this makes it so I can take and store photos for present or future use. For my personnel I will be using 3 models, 1 being Ewan the front cover model, Hes is posing as a male base guitarist, Luke for an image on the contents page being a hand model with the mic as well as Tom Waddy, with him posing as a music editor/ producer
